Community Update: Plans for the 2021-2022 School Year

Dear Camp Hill students, staff, and families,

As circumstances related to the pandemic continue to change, I want to take this opportunity to provide you with some important information about our plans for the remainder of the summer and for the start of next school year.

Masking Order

On June 28, 2021, the Mask Mandate in Pennsylvania issued by the Secretary of Health and the Governor was lifted. Following recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), starting on June 28, 2021, the Camp Hill School District no longer required masks for individuals in our buildings or at district events.  However, masking continues to be recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for unvaccinated individuals, and the district will continue to support all individuals who prefer to wear a face covering.

Health and Safety Plan

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act requires school districts and other local education agencies that receive funding under the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to develop and make publicly available a Health and Safety Plan no later than July 30, 2021.

The present Health and Safety Plan requirements differ from the plan that PDE required during the 2020-2021 school year, but its purpose is similar.  It will serve as our general plan for maintaining the health and safety of students and staff.  For more information about ARP requirements for the Plan, please click here.

Camp Hill’s 2021-2022 Health and Safety Plan was approved by the Board of School Directors at its meeting on Monday, July 12, 2021.  To review the approved plan, please click here.

Planning for the 2021-2022 School Year

With the expiration of the face mask order and the additional guidance from PDE now granting school districts the authority to establish their own mitigation plan, the focus of our Health and Safety Plan for the 2021-2022 school year will be on the following general expectations.

  • All schools will be open for in-person instruction five (5) days a week.
  • Staff and students will not be required to wear face masks while at school or at district events unless PDE or DoH requirements dictate.
  • Individuals who wish to wear face masks as a mitigation measure will be permitted to do so - but that will be their personal choice.
  • Staff and students will not be required to be vaccinated in order to work at or attend our schools. Vaccinations are encouraged.
  • We will offer a full-time virtual learning option through an enhanced CAOLA model as presented earlier this summer, posted on the district website, and linked here: Lion Academy. If this is the educational option that you choose for your student, please contact your child’s building principal so we can support you accordingly.
  • Administration will continue to review and implement more specific measures and continued best practices to maintain a high level of health and safety for our students and staff.

As we are all aware, circumstances related to the pandemic can change rapidly.  We will continue to review the guidance from PDE, DoH, and other regulatory agencies. We are looking forward to a more normal school year in 2021-2022.

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your cooperation during a very challenging 2020-2021 school year.  Your continued collaboration and partnership is greatly appreciated.  I hope you and your family have a restful and safe summer.  We look forward to seeing students on August 25th, the first day of the 2021-2022 school year!
