“Camp Hill is an excellent school district with tremendous potential to move to the next level of excellence,” said Mr. Serfass.  “I am excited to partner with the school board, the staff and the community to specifically define what that ‘next level’ will look like, and provide the students of Camp Hill with a tremendous educational experience.  I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with some phenomenal school leaders during my time in public education and in my military service, and I plan on leveraging those experiences in Camp Hill.”

Mr. Serfass is presently serving as the Assistant Superintendent at Elizabethtown Area School District (EASD). He previously held positions as the Assistant to the Superintendent for Learning and High School Principal at EASD as well.  While at Elizabethtown, Mr. Serfass skillfully led the school district in all aspects of educational programming and adeptly served as a senior leader on the superintendent’s cabinet for the past three years. As the High School Principal, his leadership and high expectations for student learning and growth successfully facilitated exceeding the goals of the district’s comprehensive plan. Mr. Serfass’ leadership fostered a positive, student-oriented learning environment that was emotionally, physically and socially conducive for students to flourish.

Mr. Serfass has also meritoriously served our country’s military-connected youth as the Principal of Schools in Wiesbaden, Germany, Rota, Spain, and Livorno, Italy. Further, he has served as Assistant Principal at Hershey High School in Derry Township, PA and Radnor High School in Wayne, PA. He taught civics, naval science, physical education and coached various athletic teams at William Allen High School is Allentown, PA and The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA prior to transitioning into public school administration.

Mr. Serfass is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. He was awarded a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University in 2005 and a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from California University of PA in 2019. Mr. Serfass is a retired United States Naval Officer. His twenty years of service to our country culminated with leadership tours of duty as a commanding officer and chief staff officer of a major command. During his career he diligently trained countless men and women in the performance of their skilled trades while sustaining exceptional rates of organizational mission accomplishments. He presently serves his community as the President of Hershey Aquatic Club and member of Rotary International. He is married and has two school age children.

“We are excited to bring Mr. Serfass into the District,” said Board President Steve Karl.  “We undertook a thorough search that included a series of outstanding candidates. When we undertook this search, we looked closely at candidates who demonstrated executive skills and leadership accomplishments; systems thinker; a genuine commitment to collaborate, engage and communicate with all stakeholders; the drive to mobilize technology operationally and educationally; the knowledge and insight to drive crucial discussions with staff and the Board; the ability to work with the Board to establish annual areas of focus and initiatives to serve the diverse needs of all learners; and a conscientious approach to budgeting that aligns with our mission, vision and core values – all done with integrity, resilience, critical thinking and a strong work ethic.  As a board, we felt at the end of this process that Mr. Serfass’ deep knowledge base and diverse experiences in leadership, interpersonal skill and professional accomplishments as an educational leader make him a great fit for Camp Hill,” Karl added.

“I also want to thank my colleagues on the Board for their dedication throughout the process, and to the staff for their thoughtful input.  Finally, I know I speak for the entire board in paying tribute to Mrs. Patty Craig for her dedicated and conscientious leadership over the last three years.  She has certainly served us tremendously well and will be missed.  A special thanks also goes to Dr. Patty Sanker for continuing to serve as our Acting Superintendent throughout this transition process,” Karl concluded.

The search for a new Superintendent was conducted by TEMPLETON Advantage, LLC on behalf of the Camp Hill Board of School Directors.  “I cannot say enough about the dedication of the Board and the entire team in this process,” Templeton said.  “Searches are time intensive, challenging and critically important to the future of the district.  I have informed the Board that the second half of the process begins now.  I will not let up until the Board and Mr. Serfass develop governing and leadership plans that continue to expand connections with the community, the region, and, quite frankly, the world of diverse ideas and trends in order to serve all the students and families of Camp Hill at the highest possible level… especially in these unprecedented times,“ Templeton added.
