Hoover Back to School Health Orientation

Welcome to the new school year! Together, we can have a great and healthy year. We are all learning to adapt to our ever-evolving new normal, and this adaptability will be a strength for our children in the future.  I am optimistic that if everyone follows the guidelines diligently, we will see fewer illnesses, fewer missed school days and less time missed from work. However, this is going to require diligence on all of our parts. This is a great community – I know we can do this! Please call me if you have any problems or concerns.

    • Any parent whose child has a medical condition that may affect them while at school needs to relay this information directly to the nurse.  If you would like to set up a meeting with me, please call me. See my contact information above.

      • Please review this video with your child and reinforce the lesson at home.

      •   Just a reminder to keep your child home if they are ill. Please call the attendance line and report all symptoms of illness in detail.

      • Please also send your child to school with a full water bottle every day.

    • Please go onto the parent portal to update health data to include changes in medical conditions, permission for medications at school and telephone numbers. It will be very important to keep your phone numbers up to date this school year.

    • Any medications other than Tylenol, ibuprofen, Tums, bacitracin and hydrocortisone must have a doctor’s order to be given at school. It is advisable to review the medication policy which is easily accessible on my webpage. Please contact me for the forms if you are unable to print them out.

    • All injuries that will require any special accommodations (restricted or no PE or recess, etc) while in school must have a doctor’s excuse and orders for the requested accommodations.

    • Kindergarten or grade 1 students (original entry) are required to have dental and physical exams for school. If you do not have insurance, please contact me so I can assist. Most doctors’ offices use electronic forms which are acceptable to turn in. If you need a physical or dental form, you can go to the Health Services website or my website or call to arrange to get one.
