Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology!!
This will be a rigorous course that covers all of the major body systems - epidermal, muscoskeletal, nervous, digestive, respiratory, excretory, endocrine, and immune. We will also look at how molecular processes play a role in how these systems operate. This will give students an opportunity to see how all of the material they learned in a previous Biology course applies to the functioning of body systems.
Throughout this course, students will participate in the cat or rabbit dissection. This will be done during several different units as we are studying the particular body system or over a period of two weeks depending on when we receive the specimens. Students will work in groups and will be expected to be an active participant in the dissection since lab practicals will be a portion of their grade. As possible other dissections may be included such as the pig heart to look at more specific organs or systems.
Overall I hope your student enjoys this science elective. It give them an opportunity to build on prior knowledge while also learning many things about how their bodies work. It is a great course for students planning a career in the health sciences and also those that just want to learn more about anatomy. I look forward to working with your student this year.
