Honor Our Elders 2014-15

Camp Hill is proud to have completed three successful Honor Our Elders projects. Students have written hundreds of stories, drawn hundreds of illustrations and, with the assistance of Two of a Kind, students have composed 32 songs.Thank you for your support of the Lion Foundation which makes this project possible! The year-long project involved all Eisenhower students in language arts, visual art and music classes.
- WHO: grades 3-5 (with hope to repeat every 3 years)
- FUNDING: Lion Foundation Grant and Elementary PTO sponsorship for our guest artists to perform on the concert with our students
- INTERVIEWS: All students conduct an interview of an “elder”—grandparent, neighbor, etc.
NON-FICTION STORIES: Students write and edit their elder's story into a nonfiction piece.
ILLUSTRATION: In art class, students draw illustrations for their stories.
SONGWRITING: Students work with Mrs. Roxanne Dixon (elementary music teacher) and professional singer/ songwriter duo "Two of a Kind" (David and Jenny Heitler-Klevans) to write original songs as a class.
CONCERT & RECEPTION: All elders are celebrated and songs premiered at a culminating concert and reception.
