Role of the School Counselor

As a school counselor, my role is to implement a comprehensive counseling program that promotes and enhances student achievement. With my unique background in education as well as the mental health field, I have the skill set necessary to address all students’ academic, personal/social and career development needs.
To ensure all students have the ability to maximize all opportunities available, my role as a school counselor is to support a safe learning environment and advocate for the rights of all members of the school community. As a school counselor, I will incorporate leadership, advocacy and collaboration to address the needs of all students through prevention and intervention programs that are a part of a comprehensive school counseling program.
What Does a School Counselor Do?
- Individual counseling
- Small group counseling
- Classroom guidance lessons on various topics
- Course Scheduling
- Attend and participate in academic intervention meetings
- Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, students and outside agencies
- Respond to school crises or emergency situations
- Provide information and resources to parents on a variety of issues
