College and Career Readiness Events and Opportunities
The following information is dedicated to promoting internship, career, leadership and educational opportunities to the students of Camp Hill School District. Such experiences are intended to enhance student exploration of educational and career pursuits related to their interests. Information on this page will be updated as new opportunities are made available. Please see the Career Readiness Opportunities file for more information on programs available throughout the year.Current Events/Opportunities:Law/Criminal Justice/Forensics Career Connections Event:The College/Career Readiness Workforce Development and SCPa WORKS will be hosting a half day Law/Criminal Justice/Forensics Career Connections event on January 31, 2020 at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU). Students will be exposed to a broad spectrum of careers in these fields and hear from representative officers, investigators, lawayers, and more. Students in grades 9-12 may attend. Space is limited. Sign up in the counseling center by January 24, 2020.Engineering Career Day, Friday, February 21, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the HACC Midtown Trade & Technology Center. Students (grades 9-12) will have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and explore the many different career possibilities in the engineering field. AIM HI (Aspirations in Medicine & Healthcare Initatives), Friday, February 28, 7:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill. This event is sponsored by Geisinger Holy Spirit and Select Medical and will provide one-on-one interactions with professionals from many different healthcare fields. Students in grades 9-12 who have an interest in healthcare career opportunities are encouraged to register at the Counseling Center by Thursday, February 13. Space is limited... East Pennsboro Branch Library is offering two 3-session workshops for college-bound juniors and seniors interested in developing their college reading and writing skills. Registration is required for both. Penn State Harrisburg is currently recruiting rising juniors & seniors to participate in a 2-week STEM Summer Enrichment Program (June 8 - 19, 2020). Application details are available at harrisburg.psu.edu/STEM-SEP and the deadline to apply is February 21 by 5:00 p.m. See the flyer below for more details.Entrepreneurship Career Connections Event:There will be a half day Entrepreneurship Career Connections Event at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit on March 4, 2020. Students in grades 9-12 who are interested in learning about owning and managing a business are encouraged to attend to learn from local leading business owners. Sign up in the Counseling Center by 2/26/2020.A Blended Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification course for current Juniors and Seniors will be offered through Camp Hill High School and HACC for the 2020 spring semester. The EMR course is a combination of online course work, as well as 4 full days of hands-on training. There is no cost for the course, and space is limited. Registration/permission forms must be completed and returned to the Counseling Center by January 17, 2020.The PA Governor's School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University is now accepting applications from current high school juniors for the summer 2020 program. PGSS is an intensive, 5-week summer residential program with the goal of encouraging Pennsylvania's youth to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. Accepted applicants will receive a full scholarship to the program. Completed applications must be submitted online no later than January 31, 2020. Hospitality & Tourism Career Connections Event, Thursday, March 26, 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to explore the many facets of the hospitality & tourism industries. Students will be introduced to a broad spectrum of careers, with representatives from the culinary arts, restaurant & lodging, resort, and travel industries. Registration information will be available in mid-February.
Health & Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp at Lebanon Valley College, July 26-31, 2020. Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry, and neuroscience.
